On Friday, after our visit to VG, we will have lunch in a small indian/pakistani restaurant not far from the city centre. This is a well known place in Oslo, not only for it's good food, but also it's characteristic atmosphere. From the outside it looks more like a fast food restaurant, but inside you often meet the whole family that runs the restaurant, and the food tastes wonderful!
The chef at Delhi Tandoori Restaurant have given you two choices: You can have Lamb Curry or Chicken Curry. The Department is paying for the lunch, but you will have to pay for your drinks.
This will be fun! : )

Twittering with the world
Twitter is an arena for debate that is expanding. Here you can follow a lot of people's latest opinions and experiences. Among the Norwegians on twitter we find the Prime Minister, loads of newspaper editors, journalists and correspondents, politicians and other people in powerful institutions. There are also well known scientists and academics. Even Barack Obama is there.
Have a look at Twitter.com!
I will challenge all my students to start twittering about important issues, for instanc identity, medias and journalism's roles in the world, films, gender, power and other subjects.
Here is my twittering avatar. Come to twitter, and we can follow each other! : )

Norwegian news in English
Unfortually it's not easy finding Norwegian news in English, but here are two links to Norwegian News.
One of them is called The Norway Post. This is a site primarly for tourists, so you will find a lot of information and commercials in addition to some news stories.
Aftenposten, the paper Liv Skotheim works for and that she told you about the first week of the course, used to have an english version. But they don't anymore. Some of the staff from Aftenposten still have continued translating news into English. You can find their blog here. (They also have a facebook profile!)

Visiting VG and NRK
Soon we are visiting VG, the largest, tabloid paper in Norway and NRK - Norwegian Boradcasting.
At VG we will meet Helje Solberg, News Editor in VG. She will talk about the paper's news profile, and how they are working. Afterwards we will meet someone from the International News Staff before we'll get a giuded tour around the house. Here is a link to more information about VG - in english
In NRK we will start the day with a guided tour, before we will meet people form the international news staff in Norwegian broadcasting television and radio. Hopefully we will meet the news editor, and also two international correspondents. But they told me that they can't promise anything, in case something happens. Here is more information about NRK in english
I'm also hoping that we can visit Democratic Voice of Burma and RadiOrakel.
The days will be a little longer than we are used to, but since the department are treating us with lunch on a café nearby, I hope we will have plenty of energy to visit several places.
PS: I still haven't figured out where to have lunch, so if anyone have som good ideas I will consider them! : )

Back in Norway
I've been horse back riding in Sweden the past week. Out there, in the middle of the Swedish countryside, I couldn't connect to the Internet. When coming home to Norway I was eager to read the blog posts, and I've read so much good stuff (even though several must have forgotten their home work this week!!). So many interesting wievs on the past week's films, and also about Rune Ottosen's lecture last week. I also realised that there have been discussions I really wanted to take part in, and are sorry that I missed. But now I'm back! : )
I'm looking forward to see all the beautiful people in the class tomorrow!
